Medical/evacuation coverage does not depend on the price of the cruise and
typically not on the age of the insured either.

Yes, one can be a AAA member and not be required to purchase auto
insurance from them. Look at the perks they offer you over other
travel insurance companies for the same price. Your auto insurance
agent will jump at the chance to sell you any kind of insurance. Will
have to look, but I believe AAA offers coverage a day before and a day
after your travels plans.

We have never paid more than $130.00, each for travel insurance. Call
you auto agent. What would possess anyone to call for an insurance
price beyond your auto/home homewner insurance? Pre-existing
condition??? Just call you agent and find out for yourself. Geeeez...

Frank, by going to insuremytrip.com we can pick the lenght of time we
want to be ccvered and also have the non-cruise portion of the trip
covered. The price that you mention for AAA inxurance is in line with
what we pay going through insuremytrip.com.

Frank, it's great you are satisifed with your AAA insurance coverages.
Note that insurance is regulated by state, so what you get from AAA
wherever you live may not be what another US reader gets in his/her
state. For example, AAA is not known to be price-competitve on
personal lines in Texas, and also, they don't write their own travel
coverage here; instead, they extend plans with partner Access America.

In fact, I don't know of any auto or home insurers that write travel
insurance in Texas, so we can't do as you suggest and simply call
Chubb, State Farm, Allstate, etc. Based on the lines I see every time
I price out a trip policy at squaremouth or insuremytrip, I don't
really think it is the norm for personal lines carriers to write
travel.

It is impossible to compare travel insurance rates and decide who got
a better deal unless the requested coverages + risks are exactly the
same, i.e., identical policy terms + same number of travelers, same
ages, same state of residence and same trip in every way. Your quote
of $260 is higher than I would pay for generous coverage for a typical
7-night Caribbean cruise...but then, like I said, what in the world
are we comparing? Who knows based on all of the variable factors.

The bottom line is, when people educate themselves and buy the
coverage that best suits their needs, if any, that's a great thing.
Way better than the sad stories we hear when folks didn't insure their
trips and then wished they had!
