Sorry to hear about Toby....I lost my golden retriever, Cinnamon, to
that 2 days after she turned 9... I know the Bridge well. Take care,
and keep us updated!

My sister (a dog trainer) recently put her Aussie down for the same
thing. Her buddy, Dakota, developed a chronic problem when he chowed
down on a bottle of baby aspirin a few years ago. I lost a cocker
because he liked to chew our pressure treated wooden deck (found out
it contains arsenic). An acquaintance lost her pup because he got his
head stuck in a plastic potatoe chip bag while she was at work.
Brief public service message here.... Did you know that many
household plants and food products can kill your dog? Chocolate is a
major no-no. I've heard the same about grapes, raisins, raw garlic
and onion. Antifreeze tastes sweet, but is a killer. Silly fuzzies
don't know any better, but it might be worth the time to look up
exactly what is OK for us but a no-no for our dogs. Cats, too.

And, for those of you who use mulch in your yards, there's a chocolate
mulch that is toxic to dogs.

I was looking at http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/crusader.asp
last week
and the mention of renal failure immediately brought to mind
"Menu Foods Pet Food Redall"
http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/menu.asp and
"Raisin the Alarm" http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/raisins.asp
both true. Theobromine contained in cocoa, Xylitol sugar substitute and
Sago palms join other pet hazards our pets can get their mouths on -
such as paper shredders, chicken jerky dog treats, pimple ball dog toy
and even plushies laced with flame retardant.

Dillon,

I am so sad reading this. I have been through the loss of a four legged
member of the family and I know first hand that it is not fun.

Thoughts, prayers and PD to you.

Jack
