Everything looks large to idiot reporters who can't tell a pistol from a revolver. Unless someone can link to a photo of this, I'd say what they saw were shotguns......the shotguns can shoot beanbags and other non-lethal projectiles. Otherwise, they were simply AR-15s, which are what our troops use. They shoot .223 caliber, and are not any big deal. No more than any other rifle. In a situation such as a near riot, I'll take all the intimidation factor I can get! ;) > "Dave" <newenglandarchives(a)hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:1181845128.439620.183020(a)i13g2000prf.googlegroups.com... >> On Apr 24, 6:29 pm, jgrov...(a)hotmail.com wrote: >>> www.local6.com/news/12610602/detail.html?rss=orlpn&psp=news: >>> >>> ORLANDO, Fla. -- Incidents of beer bottles tossed at police prompted >>> a major crackdown outside nightclubs indowntownOrlandothat included >>> officers patrolling the crowds with large assault rifles. >>> >>> Police said they want to take control back of thedowntownarea after >>> some incidents by people leaving clubs, according to the report. >>> "They are out-of-control partiers," Local 6's Laura Diaz said. At least some authorities are facing reality: "Operation All Hands on Deck will target the high-crime pockets in downtown Orlando, the Parramore, Rosemont, Mercy Drive and Kirkman Road and International Drive corridors. "We are in a three-year epidemic. We've got to solve it, and it's going to start at the local level," Orlando Police Chief Mike McCoy said."

I've never been shot by a .223 cal, but I'm relieved to hear they are "not any big deal". If that is so they why would troops use them? A drunken crowd who are too off their heads to know when to stop vs a bunch of outnumbered, perhaps scared, cops with guns is a recipe for a tragedy. Anyone remember Kent State? Go look it up on Wikipedia. Batons and body armour would be better.

Days To Go) When Church Street booming it was a much better place. Now all you see are sleazy night clubs and tattoo parlors. I have a family and I don't take chances with them. You're taking chances when you go downtown during the day or night. Also Universal Studios opened City Walk. My kids love it. And it's safe.

In a situation such as a > near riot, I'll take all the intimidation factor I can get! ;) Yep, AR-15 is the civilian version of the M-16, nice weapon just don't get it dirty. Plus I would much rather read that article than one titled "Riot breaks out in downtown Orlando". Keep in mind there is also no such thing as a "small assault rifle" too. I also agree that reporters are mostly idiots (dated one and met her coworkers at MANY parties) they love to dream up ways to sensationalize a situation. --- Yet another satisfied customer of Bartender Sam! |
