wow. Alot of people really seem to like the POR, but there are also
good sounding things about the CSR. I like the idea that there's a
work out room and the food seems more to my taste at CSR, but there
are so many POR/POFQ enthusiasts. AAACCCKKK

Hey, it was at least two hours!

But seriously, the stay at PO was aborted for many reasons. The
original plan for that trip was that Katie and I were going to spend a
long weekend, but then, wouldn't you know it, my wife Jan decided she
needed to tag along and it turned into week-long trip. Katie and I
could have been just fine at All Stars, but we had stayed there before
and my plan was to eventually stay at all the WDW resorts, so we spent
the extra (at that time) $30/night to upgrade to PO-FQ.

The first big problem was that Jan hates to stay anywhere with outside
entrance. The second problem was the terrible condition of the room
(note that the resort closed less than a month later for refurb). Of
course that might have rectified by changing rooms, but as we sat there
on the bed, waiting for the manager to call, we just decided we didn't
want to stay there. It wasn't necessarily the continuous flow of noisy
people outside the window, or the small room, or the tiny clothes hanger
rack instead of a closet, or the lack of counter space on the sinks. It
was all that. Luckily, Disney was able to get us a room at AKL with our
AP discount and we loved it.

For me, the things that I don't like about the values are just not
addressed at all by the moderates. Yes, they have slightly larger rooms
(though they sure don't feel like it to me), marginally nicer
furnishings, fancier building ornamentation, and nicer grounds and food
choices, but to me, those things are not worth the 50% premium over a
value. I realize that a deluxe resort is closer to 3x the price of a
value, but for my needs and wants, that *is* worth it - inside
entrances, private-use balconies, much nicer furnishings, visibly larger
rooms, much better food and entertainment choices, and better service
(valet and bell staff).

Having said all that (for those of you still reading), I'd not really
argue anyone's choice of WDW resort. These opinions are just mine,
based on what I like and what I want in a resort hotel on my WDW
vacations. For those who love the moderates, then I'm happy you do and
glad that Disney has them for you. For me, if I need to save money on
my trips and want "just a room", it's a value resort. Otherwise, it's a
deluxe.

Yep. We actually found the bus ride from AKL to the MK to be faster
than the boat from WL to MK.

Probably. But of course at AKL, there is no "bus sharing", so once you
get on, you know exactly where your next stop will be.

Yep. I'll bet all the Disney Dollars I own that when the 5th gate
opens, Epcot Center Drive will be extended to Western Way. (Yes, this is
a safe bet because one, it is soooo obvious, and two, I currently have
less than $5 in Disney Dollars).

Yeah, there are some rooms that cane be a long walk. There is a trick,
though. If you are around the pool area, there's a doorway that comes
out of the stairwell just a few steps from the bus stop. So even if you
are on the far side of the pool, just walk across the patio area and
save yourself a lot of navigating through the lobby.
