Really? I laugh at how people remember this. The parks - actually,
park until 1982 - was open extended hours during the summer and around
Christamas and Easter. Not in the off season.

During the peak periods the park was almost unenjoyable to be in.
Ever go on New Years Eve? I did and you couldn't move. In fact my
girlfriend and I could not find a table at, of all places, Pecos
Bills, and when we did some weird Asian family of eight decided to
squeeze into the two other seats at our table, without asking, saying
hi, anything.

That was NYE 1984 going into 1985.

From 1974 to 1984 we always visited WDW the week before Christmas -
the slow week of the holiday peak period. I can remember waiting many
hours for rides like Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribean.

Even as recently as the early 1990s I waited four hours to get on
Splash Mountain.

Everyone seems to remember these long hours and low crowds. Well, if
there were long hours, I remember huge crowds. The days where rides
were a walk-on usually saw a closing time of 8:00 PM or earlier.

No.

No.

Yes.

No.

I'm still trying to figure out where you get this line of thought.
You used to be rational in your arguments/statements.

Jesus H. Christ, Rodney! There are ample benchs all around the damn
parks! The eateries have to hold their own, financially, and do
operate as any other restaurant at any other location in the world.

Try wandering into a large city downtown McDonalds and just spend some
time cooling off and grabbing a seat during lunch rush.

You aren't going to get to stay there and if you insist upon your
right to stay, a nice police man will be speaking with you shortly.

Where are you getting the idea that seating in a WDW theme park
restaurant area should be any different?

Actually, there are fewer and fewer benches each time I visit.

The main hub in the MK used to be lined with benches, now there are
hardly any.

I imagine that's because guests were standing on them during
the castle forecourt shows.

CM's were forever shooing people off the benches when they first
starting having shows there in...in...the early 2000's....

And actually, if you don't mind the smell of smoke or can sit
upwind from the smokers, many of the smoking areas are
quite nice. They're isolated from the rest of the park, and
usually the only guests in them are adults. :-)

DBSTalk is safe. The board is heavily (but very fairly) moderated so he
stays in check (and he is not a mod nor ever will be).
