OK - another joke: Spaniard: "Is there a word in your language that means the same as 'manana' ?" Irishman: "Well, yes, but without the sense of urgency" B;

Well, at least I went out on a limb enough to try define it! I actually would say the fixed pitches are a requirement for music, as anything else would be just a soundscape, which would be impossible to render in anyway on paper. -- --- DFM - http://www.deepfriedmars.com --- --

Following up to Dave Frightens Me >I actually would say the fixed pitches are a requirement for music, as >anything else would be just a soundscape, which would be impossible to >render in anyway on paper. you can actually render birdsong on paper, but you cant get birds to sing it back. Although I think I agree that for most people music is a succession of fixed points of sound, although rhythm may include "untuned" percussion. Musicians will no doubt say otherwise, but few appreciate the results. -- Mike Reid Walk-eat-photos UK "http://www.fellwalk.co.uk" <-- you can email us@ this site Walk-eat-photos Spain "http://www.fell-walker.co.uk" <-- dontuse@ all, it's a spamtrap |
